Surface¶
Surface is your organization's intelligence dashboard. It aggregates signals from across the DataHub platform into a single view — maturity scores, task status, flow activity, AI-powered recommendations, and knowledge graph topics.
When to use it¶
- Daily check-in: start your day by scanning Surface for overdue tasks, failed flows, and new recommendations.
- Executive overview: share the Surface dashboard during leadership meetings to communicate data governance health.
- Proactive maintenance: act on HERC recommendations before issues escalate — fix high-failure-rate flows, triage overdue tasks, and review emerging knowledge topics.
What you see¶

| Org Health Gauge | Your organization's composite maturity score (0–100) and current stage (initial → prescriptive). |
| Maturity Level | Per-pillar breakdown (coverage, density, usage, quality) as a horizontal bar chart. |
| Task Overview | Open, in-progress, overdue, and completed task counts. |
| Flow Activity | 7-day flow execution summary — total runs, success rate, completed/failed split, and a timeline sparkline. |
| Recommendations | AI-generated findings from HERC — high/medium/low severity items with suggested actions. |
| Hot Topics | Top community clusters from the Organization DNA knowledge graph, ranked by entity density. |
Setup¶
Surface requires no additional setup. It reads data from existing modules:
- Growth maturity → powered by Organization DNA / Growth
- Tasks → powered by the Tasks module
- Flows → powered by the Flows module
- Recommendations → powered by HERC workflow and flow analysis
- Hot Topics → powered by the Brain knowledge graph
Ensure these modules are active and populated for a complete dashboard.
Limitations¶
- Recommendations refresh on page load (not in real-time). For cached results, they update approximately every 5 minutes.
- Hot Topics depend on the Brain knowledge graph being indexed — first results appear after the initial Brain indexing run.
- Flow Activity shows the last 7 days only.
- Surface is read-only — it does not create or modify data in other modules.
Troubleshooting¶
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| All panels show empty state | No data in connected modules | Connect data sources, create flows, and run the Brain indexer |
| Growth gauge shows "computing" | Growth snapshot not yet computed | Wait for the next scheduled Growth computation (runs automatically) |
| No recommendations | No issues detected, or analysis hasn't run | This is normal — HERC only surfaces findings when something needs attention |
| Hot Topics empty | Brain not indexed | Trigger a Brain reindex from the DNA page |
